I was trout fishing this morning, catching some fairly small fish, when I landed a wierd one!!

It was smooth, like a trout; shaped like a trout; was very pink on the underbelly and gill area; had a flat head and 3-4 sets of spines from between his eyes to just beyond the eyes.  I think its a cross breed.  I have never seen anything like this.

Does anyone know what what this could be?  The spines are throwing me off.  What kind of fish has 4 sets of spines on its head???

Thanks for thinking about this,     Jill

After contacting the wildlife biologist, I know what it is!!!

Its called a horny chub.  A minnow native to the Mississippi.  There are a lot of these fish in Pennsylvania.  The horns appear during mating season as does the coloring.

It sure was ugly!
