Water Monitoring

Central Wisconsin Trout Unlimited has been actively involved in water monitoring since 2004. We are working in partnership with the WDNR's Water Action Volunteers. Currently, we are monitoring 19 rivers and streams in central Wisconsin.
Tom Young(left) has been water monitoring for five years. Here he and a friend have been monitoring on the Waupaca River in Waupaca.

Purpose of water monitoring project:

  • To work with the WDNR to help identify streams that are suitable for rehabilitation.
  • To become familiar with the water quality and aquatic life in our regions streams.
  • To Collect valuable data to help protect streams from future degradation.
  • To Connect with the natural world.

Central Wisconsin Streams that are being monitored by CWTU:

Austin Creek, Bird Creek, Carpenter Creek, Campground Creek, Chaffee Creek, East Branch of the Fond du Lac River, Hatton Creek, Little Pine Creek, Magdanz Creek, Mecan River, Parsons Creek, Pine River, Rock River Watershed, Taggatz Creek, Waupaca River, Wedde Creek, West Branch of the White River, White River, and Willow Creek

What happens to the data?
The WAV program has established an online database where volunteers' data are entered by registered data coordinators:

/monitoring/database.html

Anyone with web access can view the data in the database, which is searchable by county, stream or site name.
